JUNIOR LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

what is the jla?

JLA stands for Junior Leadership Academy. The JLA is in its 11th year as a summertime program (hooray!) for kids from all over the White Mountains, including Whiteriver, Pinetop, Show Low, Snowflake, and Holbrook. There are 25 – 30 kids in each program, which takes place in June. It’s completely, 100% community funded (with help from the Share Your Soles Shoe Project!), and that’s why we need YOUR help to keep it going!

This program helps kids from all over the mountain learn about how to be an integral part of their community through service, fun activities that promote teamwork, and leadership. The JLA was selected as one of the top three out-of-school programs in Arizona (2014) by the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence and creates memories for kids that they will truly never forget.

“JLA: Its instigation and development is the epitome of teacher creativity and care. These exceptional professionals, initially and continually, impact the lives of our youth. From a local focus, JLA has been recognized as an award winner and responds to inquiries to replicate in additional communities. Credit is due to our dedicated teachers and communities.”
